敏感 -- Sensitive Sensitive \Sen"si*tive\, a. (F. sensitif) 1. Having sense of feeling; possessing or exhibiting the capacity of receiving impressions from external objects; as, a sensitive soul. 2. Having quick and acute sensibility, either to the action of external objects, or to impressions upon the mind and feelings; highly susceptible; easily and acutely affected. 3. Having a capacity of being easily affected or moved; as, a sensitive thermometer; sensitive scales. In my post Fairy Tales Ichiro4242 and nikon01 are discussing the relative merits of the Republican and Democrat parties. Iniro4242 made a point that because the Democrats are sensitive to a wide variety of issues that Asian Americans should fall in lock step with the Democrats. Sensitive issues, insensitive issues. What is sensitive to me might not be as sensitive to you. What is trivial to me might be something, which might cause a major uproar to you just by me merely mentioning on the issue. What I am trying to imply here is that, the term "sensitive" could be very subjective and relative in meaning, depending on the interpretation of the individual based on their upbringing, background, class history and most importantly, their senses and ability to differentiate the right from the wrong based on their OWN values. Supposedly, animals behave following their instincts. However, they mutated throughout history, trying to defend themselves from humans. Now, even animals are thinking! Evidence: My cat prefers chicken from a very well known fast food chicken chain to the pathetic-looking fried chicken I cook. Smart feline! If animals can think, is it not degrading for the Homo sapiens if we choose not to use our abilities to rationalize? It is not possible to sweep all the dust under the carpet in order to make your house looks clean and perfect when JUST the spot under the carpet itself is able to falsify the state of TOTAL cleanliness of your house. Maybe it is better for you to change your mindset of sweeping dust under the carpet to sweeping and disposing properly into the bin. Anyway, it is an analogy. What is life made of? Sugar, spice, and everything nice? It only happens in nursery rhymes. Living in false-consciousness and being manipulated, THAT IS what life is really made of. Thanks to the indoctrinate nature of society and with all the analytical skills that we have been taught throughout our schooling and college years, should we not make good use of them in the real world? So just what do people mean when they use the word “sensitive” to describe the qualities of a political party or the next President of the United States? VICKY |
