Political Correctness

請評論. 謝謝.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by the delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous, mainstream media, which holds forth the false proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Oh, my goodness. Did I hit a sore spot? Do you really identify yourself as a lily-livered liberal?

After all, isn't it the liberal left that seems to come up with all kinds of solutions to problems that requires me to work extra hard to make a lot of money so I can pay taxes to fund their feel-good projects?

Aren't they the ones who have screwed up our education system with their feel-good dumbing down of standards so everyone passes?

Aren't they the ones who have divided us up into hypened groups such as XXX-Americans, and you can put anything you want into the XXX.

What are you afraid of? I am only a shy Asian woman expressing my opinion. Only lily-livered liberals are allowed to have an opinion? Did you that is what lily-livered liberals do, they deny the right to others to express themselves if they don't agree with the lily-livered liberals.

My, my, my. What a whimp you are. Racist hatred? Not even close.

    Just my opinion.

Hi Vicky,

Thanx for the thought provoking blog, and allowing me to participate in it

I feel your anger may be misplaced. You seem to assign a great deal of blame on liberals ascribing them greater power than they have ... especially in these times?

You mention "isn't it the liberal left that seems to come up with all kinds of solutions.... so I can pay taxes to fund their feel-good projects?" I would venture to say that few of those projects have been foisted on you in the last eight years from this administration. And MORE importantly, what portion of your taxes do you think goes to fund for feel good projects? Unless your referring to Iraq, I'd say a drop in the bucket. Its easy to check out. Just look at the national budget.

You say, "Aren't they (liberals) the ones who have screwed up our education system with their feel-good dumbing down of standards so everyone passes?" Actually, the recent changes in the educational system with emphasis upon teaching towards tests has come from the right! And lets not forget the rights contribution to our educational system... intelligent design, Please!

And, "Aren't they the ones who have divided us up into hypened groups such as XXX-Americans, and you can put anything you want into the XXX." Actually, in the sixties during the civil rights movement, many minority groups struggled to find a sense of political identity as Americans and so hyphenated themselves in various ways. And yes that was perhaps a liberal contribution, but at least it came from the populace. I think you may be chaffing because these hyphenated terms have been so marginalized by the right in the media that they actually detract from ones political identity.

Finally, the later point: I think the liberals during the civil rights movement took us from a 'colorless society' to a 'colorful society.' I don't think that this is a panacea, but it is an improvement. A person's ethnicity or culture is at least acknowledged now. Sure there is a lot of sappy celebration of diversity (Especially by white people) that rings pretty hollow sometimes, but its an improvement over pretending that person's race or cultural perspective are not relevant to their political and social concerns.

Peace.

Darwin

I think you and I may be having some linguistic difficulties...

I was referring to Vicky's post of 2/24/2008 9:16 pm (if I have the time differences correct between UK and Cal) and making the analogy of "the dogs having been let out" in that her response was as swift and decisive as if "a pack of dogs had been let out to see off an intruder" and that she was quite capable of fighting her own battles.

That does not, of course, mean that americanmanUSA should be seen as an "intruder" into any form of private conversation....

Oh Lordy... "First law of holes", Tom... "when you're in one, stop talking !"

But anyway, as I have just said to pickledpigspheet, we may have got the wrong end of the stick anyway.

Love and peace r-f

(the emoticons are working today)

May your God go with you.

I hear what you say, and I do understand and enjoy sarcasm, but it is hard to find the sarcasm in...
"In your callous disregard for their feelings you have demonstrated what a mean and awful person you are. We all know, based upon the bumper sticker, that "mean people suck". You therefore suck and are not worthy of arguing with."

Also, my computer doesn't always fuction properly with regard to the "animated gifs" or whatever technology is used to generate the emoticons, so they sometimes appear static to me. I guess I therefore missed the fact that the item at the end was, indeed, a wink.

If I have been unfair to americanmanUSA then I apologise unreservedly.

The Cutex Pie is a running joke between myself and Rejoicefrance because of my love of dogs and her ability to see them as potential culinary delights. It's all there in this, and other postings on Vicky's blog. The pup in my picture was nicknamed Cutex because she was identified in the litter by having one toenail painted with the stuff, and the pie was what I told Rejoicefrance she wouldn't be allowed to make of her !

I hope we're all happy now, and thanks for pointing out any misunderstandings. I always think it's best to get those cleared up.

Happy days

May your God go with you.

RF,

My comment was not aimed at you. I wanted to point out to anyone reading that americanman's contribution is subtly laced with sarcasm, and that the sarcastic tone and banter are lost on many. I think he meant exactly the opposite, but instead received a salvo of the opposite effect. Try decrypting that one.

Merci beau coup
Au revoir!

Here's an english lesson. Learn to decipher sarcasm (re: americanman's post) and your enjoyment of subtle linguistics and the humor it presents will be better off. And... BTW, WTF is a Cutex Pie? I've seen it being used here on several occasions. Definitely not a missprint.

After the dogs have amply fed on americanmanUSA then I would prefer the Brigitte Bardot option for them... an enjoyable, natural and healthy life with loving support and care available whenever needed.

After all, the "dogs" are only a metaphor for Vicky.

May your God go with you.

I'm a, so-called, Liberal... and I thought it was hilarious !!!

I guess it all boils down to your definition of the word, but that guy has some other issues he certainly needs to address... alone, in a very dark room.

Anyway, the dogs have been let out... "go get him Vicky"

That's a pretty accurate assessment Vikky.

Let me try and polish that turd

I think that in the media there is a line of demarkation between what is socially acceptable and what is not. Those boundaries are always changing, most often based not on a sensibility of decorum, but one of political positioning. Political correctness comes out of the attempt to sanitize things that are ugly or to present something in the best light for the media. Our politicians on both sides attempt to cast themselves in the best light. Most are pretty smarmy (love that word!)

Unfortunately, the media also uses the accusation of 'politically correctness' when there are actual and valid moral, ethical or political concerns.

Ex. The Bush Crime Family's ability to marginalize almost entirely the reality and threat of global warming. "Its just bleeding heart liberals being politically correct, blah, blah blah......there is no global warming."

I think that watching incisive political comedians and satirists has been a historically good way of getting the pulse of what is just politically correct and what are truly valid or important causes. The job of the political satirist and comedian to a lesser extent has been to push the edge of political correctness and what is socially acceptable.

Now look at the politically correct turd gleam!
