Why My Sister Fired Me

Last month, my sister fired me from working the night shift in our company. She had problems with my business style. She said I tended to give too many discounts on product we have in stock. I tried to explain to her it was only on out of season product that did not sell. She feels giving a discount on any product indicates the company is willing to give discounts on all products. I guess she is right.

She has found it difficult to juggle her day job and the four-five hours required to take care of business at night. We are in the middle. Our production plant is in China and our customers are in Europe. We deal with one group in the evening and the other in the morning all at the same time. In the meantime, we are making money for Starbucks just to stay awake. So she has asked me to help twice a week and I’ll leave the discounts to her.

I have been busy working in a laboratory that prepares rats for medical experiments. They are cute little creatures and I feel sorry for them but I also appreciate the importance of what they do for us. The laboratory was nice to let me have two dozen for me to use in my own experiments that I am conducting with my Ph.D. advisors so I can re-validate some of my test data.

I hate to drive from my parent’s home to work because I have such an awful car that is prone to breaking down. Maybe I should do like they do in the movies and shoot the engine to end my misery. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I get my new 2008 red Prius on Tuesday.

In a few weeks I will leave on a four-week road trip to Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, New York, London, Paris, and Milan. I will be traveling with one of our designers and a staff photographer.

Along the way, I will be meeting with boutique owners who have ordered from us in the past and dropping off personal gifts for them.

I made arrangements to meet some nice Asia Friendfinder people along the way and I will take pictures and try to share them in AFF.

I am sorry to hear that but I think your sister got the reason.

BTW, about your trip, too bad that you will travel upto Milan, instead I live in Pisa (my Univ is right behind the leaning tower). So you might miss to meet the "Professor", the "PhD Student", and our UNCALIBRATED instruments in our biomedical robotic lab ha..ha.ha... joking... (But somehow I got the feeling that the *PhD Student* was me???)

Have a nice day!

Ciaooo...

Isabel

It is true that sometimes it is not good to work for a relative. However, in this case when your parents ask you to help it is best to help as much as you can. I was just being a little too aggressive in sales and although we were moving a lot of product, in the end we were only breaking even from the discounts I was giving. I was wrong.

Oh, I don't use a place, I use a rice bowl.

True, I need to set priorites and I have. It is just that since my father got sick each of the children has had to pick up a share of the responsibility of keeping his business going. We are responsible for the lives of 300 other people who depend on us making a profit.

Your sister needs to visit an outlet mall. Continual discounts of items out of season. I think no less of Ralph Lauren for selling me a sportscoat valued at $375 for a discounted $150. In fact, it's smart business reducing inventory. Northface, Pantagonia, Burberry, Brooks Brothers and Anne Klien among others. Jucy Couture discounts as well. Not too shabby a company to be keeping?

Your instincts are sharper than your sisters.

Keep in mind a three pound bag of beans(french roast)at Costco is $12. Now add the grinder, a good drip coffee maker and Starbucks goes belly up. And the savings will give you a step up towards the capitalist dream.

The red Prius. Gasoline at $4/gallon in the spring. You will be smiling as you sit there stuck in traffic and listening to the clarity of your tunes without the roar of an idling engine.

    Again, sharp instints.

As a child I had my white rats. But knowing nothing of the birds and bees syndrome I couldn't keep up with their multiplying ways. I was no "Willard." You must be smarter then I was.
She has not problems discounting last years products. I was discounting product that was yet to be delivered below the normal market price. There is no problem with clearing out last year's fashions. By the way, she graduated from the MBA probram at Stanford a few years ago. She has done quite well on her own. We're just invovled trying to save our parent's business until he can take over again.

No, I won't be driving, mostly flying and sometimes the train.

The company does not belong to my sister, it belongs to my father. He was in China when he got sick from medication given to him by a Chinese hospital. It was discovered the medication was bad and was made by a drug company that is now under investigation for its shoddy work environment.

As for the business, each of the children own one share in the company. I prefer my sister to run the company as does my brother. He should run the business but he will return to active duty in a few months to deploy with the Marines to somewhere in Asia.

Not going to make it to Viet Nam. Xin loi. Maybe next time. We have thought about maybe moving our operations to there from China because of the cheaper labor costs. But since my brother is leaving for the military soon and I am leaving too, there is no one available to go there to set up operations. So we will probably stay in China for a few more years, at the most.
