Did not realise that Obama's winning the election of the presidency of the United States have echoed so much from all over the world.

No doubt about, his election is the most historical event as the first black president is elected in the United States.

Some women switched their votes from Hilary Clinton to Sarah Palin, which shown that they voted for gender. Many people voted for the first time in their lives because they were waiting for a black president. These people voted for race.

What about you? Why are you happy with Obama's election? What do you like him about? Because he's young? He's handsome? He's black? He's a Democratic? His political agendas? His political records and achievement? His personality? His ability? Or, simply, you just want a change?

he is a politician with charisma..(fact)

compare to his rival(who look like typical white politician, he is obviously the better choice)

i watched their debate on television. Obama words are more convicing and inspiring than his rival's. in choosing a leader, you need someone who is able to "touch" the crowd. to inspire others...

(and people around the world are interested on American's President Acceptance speech for the first time....unheard of before...America...a land that embraces liberal and democracy...should be proud of the result)

The most important thing about this election is the fact that white people elected a colored man (blacks = 13-14% of the US population only). Which points out a fundamental change in mentalities.

I have always refused to use the word "races" when referring to the different human ethnic groups -- Obama's election lets me hope for the timid start of what I would call a "post-racial" world, where the colours of skins are a thing of the past.

Interestingly enough, if you take the most famous "black" people in 2008 (excluding singers and musicians), you have President elect Barack Husain Obama, golf champion Tiger Woods and Formula 1 cars champion Lewis Hamilton. The three of them have a white and a black parent. That's what I like most: the mixing of so-called "races".

    Quoting yonganzl:
The funny thing is people think he's black, which is not. He's a mixed-blood of black and white.

Anyway, I'm neither happy nor unhappy for his winning the election of the presidency of the United States. Many people were also happy when Bush won the election. But then...

It's still hard to say what is going to happen. Time will tell. Let's keep an eye on it.
If a person with Obama's pigmentation was walking down the street in Birmingham, Alabama in 1960, and had attempted to use a facility that was labled "White Only" by saying he was of "mixed blood", at best he would have been laughed at, at worst, he would have been lynched or killed. Do you think the "skinheads" who were recently arrested plotting to kill Obama thought he was not black but of mixed blood? Children in asia that are of asian mothers and black american servicemen are not treated as "mixed blood", they are perhaps even more ostracized than "all black" persons. How many "mixed blood" blacks sired of white slave masters and black slaves were not treated as "blacks".

I was never happy that Bush had won, either time for junior and the only time for senior. I think Obama's election, for people of color, black, brown or yellow, is a significant achievement. I hope Obama realizes that the responsibility he holds, once elected he needs to show that he can be president, otherwise other candidates of color may have to wait much longer. Jackie Robinson opened major league baseball to people of all colors, not just blacks. He also understood his responsibility. Obama's election may not be important to you. But as an american of asian heritage, and I consider myself an american, not an asian living in america, it is gratifying to know that a person of color can achieve anything he or she wants. My recent posting mentioned the recent election of a japanese american woman to presidency of the california bar association (california organization for lawyers). She did not grow up in a privileged sheltered environment, but in Oakland public school system (for those who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, you should know how surprising it is for someone to succeed from that beginning).

It is nice to know that I could be President of the United States, but Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Governor of California, can not. People of color can now tell their children that they can be president of the united states.
I have voted in every presidential election since 1972. I am glad for once, I voted for a winner.

Think about this, a white guy, who is born and raised in China, becomes China premiere. What's your reaction to this guy? Incredible, impossible, right. That's my reaction to Obama. The first black(or mixed) American president. Incredible and possible.
