President Chavez Should get an Oscar

“Bush can be called many things but not the ultimate embodiment of evil”
(Boston Globe Newspaper editorial September 22,2006)

I teach writing and journalism classes in Mainland China as an American Foreign Teacher. When in class I asked my students to define who they thought was a terrorist, as defined by the United Nations, they responded;”Bush”. I have more than 400 students from across China. The media in Asia has praised Chavez’s speech at the United Nations for calling Bush what he is and speaking the truth of American foreign policy towards developing nations. I think Chavez should get an Oscar for his performance.
China also has diplomatic relations with Kim Jong II and Bashir Assad, and with Castro, because China’s foreign policy believes that through diplomacy, dialogue and economic cooperation are the keys to change as Ted Turner said a few days ago on the David Letterman Show. (Yes we can see Letterman in Guangzhou). The Bush policy is anything but diplomatic, like it’s threatening another sovereign nation with being “bombed back to the stone age” or detaining the Foreign minister of Venezuela in New York, even though he has a diplomatic passport. Then putting him in a room and stripping him of his clothes. This is the arrogance of American foreign policy bred by the Bush Administration. If the same happened to American diplomats Bush would be screaming for a military strike. The world watches in anxiety as the Bush-led oligarchy plunges world events down a treacherous path. This administration is viewed by countries in Asia as if it wants to take over the world. They plan to seize total control over the Middle East and from that vantage point essentially rule the world. Why else would Bush want four permanent military bases in Iraq, besides the ones America already has in Qatar. This is the Bush plan as outlined by Vice President Cheney in a document called “Pan Americana”. They openly talk pre-emptive war anywhere in the world they deem to be the kind of place that might produce "terrorists." ginning to catch on that the threats are no joke. But if military force is their answer to every problem, they will at some point have unleashed so much destructive power, they will be in danger of getting caught up in it themselves. It will have a boomerang effect on America. Chavez and other world leaders are not happy with the current tactics or the foreign policy of antagonism of the Bush administration.
In the Boston Globe newspaper on September 22,2006 an editorial said; “Chavez is criticizing the leading force behind a world economic system that has enriched his country and enhanced his power.”

That may or may not be true, but it doesn’t mean that every nation must bow to America. Its doesn’t mean that America has the right to interfere in the internal political affairs of other nations, like Venezuela or other countries such as Iran, or China., threaten them or detain their diplomats... But it does mean that other leaders have the right to express what they believe to be true in an international forum like the United Nations.

Before coming to each in China I was a police officer. I handl o he averag of 20 domestic calls a week for battered women, who's mate decided she was a punching bag. That was more than 3800 emergency calls a year. So I do not believe that in America there is more respect for women than in China.
