这是一首老歌。二十几年前第一次听它时就觉得它道出了我对“他”该有的感觉：好书，不需要有华丽的装饰，却有丰富的内涵。有深度但不复杂，有思想但不世故。

据美国国家广播电台报道，两个月以来的第二次，美国最大的玩具制造商之一 Fisher-Price 在收回标明“中国制造”的玩具。这些玩具表面喷漆的含铅量超过了美国政府规定的标准，对儿童健康不益。

近几个月来，从首发的有毒的宠物食品，含毒的牙膏到如今的玩具，大有让美国人谈“Made in China” 色变之势。

长久以来，在美国，“Made In China” 一直是廉价、低劣的代名词。连中国人到了美国，也不愿意买“Made In China” 的产品，即使是名牌。“我干吗到美国买“Made In China” 的东西呀？”如今又要加上一条“有毒有害”。还有谁敢买、敢吃中国的东西呀？

唉，怎么会是这样呢？海尔和青岛好不容易打进了美国市场并获得了好的声誉，如今硬是叫那些唯利是图的奸商破坏殆尽。

今年夏天虽未回国探亲访友，却也没得清闲。从国内来的亲戚、朋友，旅游、度假、工作、学习，走马灯似的，一个接一个。总算今天早上送走了最后一个，才偷得半日的清闲。

心情大好地做了一桌子的菜以感谢孩子们对我的支持和帮助，以及对我这些日子对他们疏忽的谅解和宽容。哈哈，最先被吃光的是红烧肉。连一向偏素的儿子都余兴未尽地说：“妈妈，你下次可以再做一些这样的红烧肉吗？”

“当然可以啦！”

最后，儿子贴心地说：“This is the best dinner I've ever had!” 哈，说得我眼泪都快掉下来了。

在上星期的 book club，我做了一些锅贴 (pot stickers)。很受欢迎。Oliver 的妈妈对我儿子说：“Your mom is such a good cook.” 我儿子说：“My mom will be delighted.” 而我却在想，高兴的应该是我的妈妈吧。她大概不会想到有一天会听到别人说这个在她眼中什么都不会的小丫头做的饭好吃。

For the second time in as many years, I got an award for my work.

Surprise! It's really out of my expectation.

I am not saying I've not been working hard. I have! But since I only work on mission related projects, you know, ...... I feel the appreciation and the recognition. Geez, that's really a good feeling!

During the year, I was trying to get the job switched but failed. So, it's not unreasonable for me to expect to see some nasty eyes and faces at work. I don't think I am affected by it. I do what I should do at work because I don't want to have that guilty feeling for what I've been paid. Besides, I love what I am doing.

Honestly, I really appreciate my supervisor for keep her trust on me unchanged. Now, it's all been paid off, not only I got an award, but I got very good results on what I've been working on.

自两年前第一次跳 line dance, 我就迷上它了。

Line Dance, 顾名思义，就是 dance in line 。美国人叫 line, 英国人叫 row. 所以，Line dance 应该是源于美国。可每年的世界顶级的 Line dance 比赛却是在英国举行。关于它的起源有多种版本。曾经有人认为这是西部牛仔的舞。其实，Real cowboys don't line dance. 真正的牛仔是不跳 line dance 的。Line Dance 与其他的乡村舞蹈 (country dances) 的最大区别在于舞者之间没有互动与接触。没有舞伴之间的互相牵制，舞者可以尽情自行发挥。当然，是要按照舞步和音乐的节拍。在我学过的 Line Dance 中，以 cha cha cha 的舞步为多，也有三步舞，Tango, Mambo, 和 Sanba 舞步。

自小习武的我原也是舞林中人。只是生了孩子以后，习武的本钱与练舞的机会都丧失殆尽。初跳 Line Dance, 我是抱着健身运动的目的。然而，跳着跳着，它对我的意义已远远超过了运动与健身。有些漂亮的舞步和动听的音乐，我会不自觉地加入自己的感情到舞步中。有时会感到不止脚步在动，心也在动！

几只我很喜欢的舞：

Summer Breeze -- 用的歌是 Bee Gee 的 “How Deep Is Your Love”；

You Can Dance -- 用的歌是 Michael Buble 的 “Save The Last Dance For Me”；

Butterfly Waltz -- 用的是蔡琴的“蓝色的梦”；

Trust Me -- 用的是中文歌“香水有毒”。

轮到我们家来主办这个月的读书讨论了。我和儿子先后读完书后，大概聊了一下，然后由他执笔写出他认为有必要讨论的问题，而我则负责准备一些与这本书有关的小的手工活动。

儿子写完问题后让我过目。我笑了。到底是孩子，大部份的问题既浅显又直接。我加了几个我的问题，也改了几个他的问题。再交回给他让他看。

“Mom, I don't get your question.”

“为什么？”

“It doesn't make sense.”

“怎么会？我只是改了几个字，意思应该没变吧。”

“But it doesn't make sense now.”儿子不是很高兴。

我不知是哪里出的问题，只好把女儿找来当裁判。经女儿讲解后才找到问题所在。

唉！只能暗自叹气，怎么这英文是越念越差了？真是老得学不动了吗？

为了帮助华人社区中不懂英文的老人，我抽时间帮忙翻译一些有关信息以方便老人们的生活。在翻译的过程中经常会感叹自己中文的退化。本来就不是擅长舞文弄墨的人，如今更是弄得鸡飞蛋打。英文没学好，中文也丢了。

唉！除了叹气还是叹气！岂是一个“惨”字可以形容的。假洋鬼子的下场吧。

It's our turn to host book club this month. Both my son and I read the book and discussed a little. Then he started to prepare questions for discussion and I prepared some activities and crafts according the book.

After reviewing his questions, I added mine since most of his questions were kind of childish in my eyes. I also made some changes to some of his questions then gave it back to him.

"Mom, I don't get your question."

"Why?"

"It doesn't make sense."

"How come? I just change a few words. It should not change the meaning."

"But it doesn't make sense now." He's not happy.

I couldn't tell what's wrong and called my daughter to judge. After her explanation, I found the problem.

A big sigh! How come my English is getting worse? Am I too old to improve?

And same with my Chinese!
Isn't that terrible?

Last night, we had final fare-well and thank-you dinner with all host families and our guests together in a restaurant in DC.

The stay of second volunteer management group for 2008 Olympic Games in DC is over. They are leaving for Philadelphia today for American Volunteer Conference there. Then move on to New York city, Atlantic City for visit, Salt Lake City to talk with Winter Olympic volunteer managers there. Then go back to Beijing from Los Angles.

These are young people whose ages are from 25 to 35. Most of them are from universities and colleges of Beijing and in charge of Youth League of universities. During their two-week stay here in DC, they visited many different kinds of agencies and organizations which have done volunteer work regularly. Their schedules were tight and tired -- seminars everyday and running around DC metro area. The girl who stayed with us said at last day "I cannot hear English anymore. It makes me sick!" I can absolutely understand and feel sympathy for her. Comparing with regular Chinese, their English are really good. But imagine, to people who don't think in English, who don't speak English regularly, now all of sudden, they are bombarded with at least 6 hours a day of English talking, what a shock! I don't know how much they learned from this visit.

Last weekend was the only free days for them. I took some of them to visit some places where they could not reach by themselves. We visited Baltimore inner harbor, enjoyed famous Maryland blue crabs. They all said they'd never eaten crab like this, nothing but crab! We visited Naval Academy ( 美国海军学院 ), which is located in Maryland capital, Annapolis.
