I Wanna Grow Old With You

This afternoon, I drove you the airport for your flight to Chicago. At the airport, you said: "I miss you already. Can you believe that? And so what are you going to say to me other than 'I love you'." You were teasing me.

"Be safe for me, Kraig."

I think one of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.

"I wanna grow old with you"
~~ By Westlife

Another day
Without your smile
Another day just passes by
But now I know
How much it means
For you to stay
Right here with me

The time we spent apart will make our love grow stronger
But it hurt so bad I can't take it any longer

I wanna grow old with you
I wanna die lying in your arms
I wanna grow old with you
I wanna be looking in your eyes
I wanna be there for you
Sharing everything you do
I wanna grow old with you

A thousand miles between us now
It causes me to wonder how
Our love tonight remains so strong
It makes our risk right all along

The time we spent apart will make our love grow stronger
But it hurt so bad I can't take it any longer

I wanna grow old with you
I wanna die lying in your arms
I wanna grow old with you
I wanna be looking in your eyes
I wanna be there for you
Sharing everything you do
I wanna grow old with you

Things can come and go I know but
Baby I believe
Something's burning strong between us
Makes it clear to me

I wanna grow old with you
I wanna die lying in your arms
I wanna grow old with you
I wanna be looking in your eyes
I wanna be there for you
Sharing everything you do
I wanna grow old with you

A Tribute To San Francisco

I met a few people in Los Angeles over dinner last night. When I told them I’m from San Francisco, they all replied, “Wow! You are so lucky!!”

And they’re right. I AM damn lucky.

Only in San Francisco will you find the bustling lunch crowds of Chinatown, golden retrievers at Crissy Fields, dancers to the pulsing beats of North Beach, couples dining in the candlelight glow of Little Italy - all somehow meshed into one sense of community. The quirky people, fickle fog, passionate liberalism, and culinary pleasures attribute to the charm of this city that I love, and am so honored to call my home.

Wherever I may be, San Francisco will always be home

Junk Mail

I just realized that the only pieces of mail I get everyday now are junk mail. I guess no one sends things in the mail anymore. E-cards, E-mail, E-bills, E-this, and E-that. Everything is electronic nowadays. I actually don't mind getting junk mail. Well, maybe only certain kinds. I like the colorful and full print advertisements for upcoming sales and discount coupons. Even restaurant menus are Ok. Those especially come in handy when ordering take-out.

What I hate the most of all junk mail are those annoying re-finance interest rate notices I get day in and day out. First of all, they usually have on the envelope the words, "IMPORTANT: DATED MATERIAL," underlined. They try to make the letter more important than it really is. Inside the letter, the typical words:

"We can save you hundreds on your current mortgage from ABC Bank! 30-year fixed interest rate is only 6.8%, blah blah blah. "

I guess it would have been important to me if I can actually save a few hundred bucks for the next 30 years. But the truth of the matter is that I've already re-fied multiple times since I took out a loan with ABC Bank. Since then I have had loans with DEF Bank, GHI Bank, all the way down to XYZ Bank already. And why would I refinance against a 6.8% rate if I currently have a 5.3% rate??

I suppose that the word, "dated," on the envelope refers to how dated the information they actually have on their records! My two cents to those people sending me those junk mail is that if you really want to extract business from me, get your numbers straight!! Get your records current!! It's nothing more embarrassing than to have your customers think that you are stupid. Or outright incompetent. So unless you can get your records straight, it's best to divert your investment from buying stamps for junk mail to upgrading your system instead. Now, that's the smart thing to do.

I learned a new Chinese quote today. You can't expect everyone to think like you and act like you. It's reality. Therefore, show tolerance. Everyone's different. Everyone's unique.

'Til Death Do Us Part.

"In sickness and in health, 'til death do us part" -- a very popular phase in marriage vows indeed. But what does it really mean? Today, I finally saw with my own eyes what these few words truly mean.

S and I went to a dim sum restaurant on Geary Blvd. To the left of us, at a nearby table was an elderly couple, enjoying their meal. Judging from their entirely gray hair, I think they must be over 70 years ago. The wife was confined on a wheelchair; the husband was fortunately still active and could move about with ease. As I glanced their way, I saw the husband feeding his wife - spoon by spoon. He cooled the hot soup, the hot dim sum, and gently spoon-fed the food to his wife. In between the feedings, the husband would grab a few bites for himself but quickly returned to tending his wife. Hardly any word was exchanged between them. As a bystander, I can't help but feel the tremendous love the husband had for his wife. His devotion and love for her put me in tears. After the meal, he paid, helped her put on her coat and scarf, thanked the waiters, and merrily wheeled her out of the restaurant. I felt such warmth seeing this couple and their beautiful story unfolding in front of me. Although she is confined to a wheelchair and may be suffering some unkown illness, she should be grateful that she has such a loving husband beside her.

This is in the truest state -- "In sickness and in health, 'til death do us part." It is indeed.

I realized recently, I haven't been keeping up with this... on the chat side and blog. I've let life get in the way of this and other things.

There have been businesses, parties, sports, trips, swimming lessons, gym, families, friends, loves, flat tire, dinners and just life in general. I've been busy.

I'll see how updating this more regularly goes, since I do have things I want to put here.

I seriously do.

My forever neighbor...

My neighbor’s brother will be deployed to Iraq in July. And God, I’m going to miss him… He’s currently having so much fun hanging out with his buddies in the Bay Area and will spend two weeks in Ohio, before he leaves for “the front”.

I’ve known him for almost 2 years, and he’s this young guy who always helps me to unload heavy stuff from my car trunk when he sees me. And I always say: “you don’t ever move away, I’ll hunt you down”. We laugh… He laughs, ever so cute.

I can’t quite grasp the reality of this. There’s no givens. There’s nothing you can say about it. He’ll be fine, you want to say to yourself, as others say it to you, with a softer voice, similar to the way they would say condolences at a funeral.

He’s 23. He’s young, he’s a Marine, he’s foolishly loyal and errs towards a boyish optimism. He believes in himself, his fellow Marines, and his country.

I’ll pray for him.

May the winds keep him whole.

My mind sways back and forth
As my heart tentatively peeks out from where it’s hiding,
wondering if it’s okay to come out again.
Am I ready for new beginnings–
Or will I continue to hang onto old feelings that leave me
....hmmmm...
so confused?

I'm here again. No huge revelation, no great epiphany. Just one tiny realization that I'd known always, at the back of my mind... that I'll always like all of you at this place. I'm saying it now. Cos one day we'll chat or write to each other for the last time, and then you'll forget me and move to somewhere quiet, with a beach and crashing waves, I think. And though I probably won't forget you but I might be going somewhere for good too. So it's in here, in this little short post ... that I'll always be loving you, cheering you on.

Always,
