Fairy Tales

"Mommy, do all fairy tales begin with, 'Once upon a time?'"

"No, Vicky. There is a whole series of fairy tales that begins with 'If Elected I Promise.'"

The Chinese restaurant owner

A single Chinese man owns a Chinese restaurant,
and one day a beautiful Chinese woman walks in. He immediately
walks over and asks her out on a date. She agrees. They go
out for a while, and soon, the man proposes to her. She says
"Yes, but before we do, there's something you
must know. I have never had the sex, but I've read about
it." He says that it's not a problem, and they
are married.

On their honeymoon, the man tells his wife that since she's
a virgin, she can choose what they do first. She says "Oh,
most honorable husband. I am honored to be your wife, even
though I have never had the sex, but I've read about
it. So, I have chosen to have the 69.

The husband looks confused, and after thinking about it,
he says "You want.. the beef and broccoli?"

Oh, this is an interesting conversation, the kind I like very much.

Ok, so first we look at the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that President Kennedy was unable to pass it because of strong opposition from Democrats who held positions of power in the House and the Senate. In the House, Howard W. Smith, Chair of the Rules Committee would not let the bill be voted upon and stalled it through all of 1963. Senator Eastland, a Democrat, also opposed the bill. However, with the assassination of President Kennedy, President Johnson was willing to carry this unfinished legislation forward with the aid of the Republicans, who were in the minority at that time.

In 1964 after the Congress reconvened, President Johnson, with the help of creative parliamentary maneuvers, plus assistance from the Republicans was able to put together a coalition that prevented a filibuster of the bill in both houses. Over 80% of the Republicans in both houses supported the Civil Rights Bill with only 60% of the Democrats supporting it.

This changed the dynamics of the political spectrum in that the South went Republican for the first time since the post Civil War period and opened the way for the Republicans to come to power under Nixon.

An interesting point of view offered by several political scientists argues that the Carter and Clinton administrations were actually aberrations during this period since most of the country was more in tune with the conservative then the liberal agenda. Carter won narrowly over Ford in 1976 because of the Nixon pardon and Clinton winning because of the third party run of Ross Perot draining votes from Bush.

It is interesting to note that this election year, according to some pundits, will be the first time in nearly 20 years in which there will be no major third party candidate running against one of the major political parties. This election will become strictly a numbers game with the Democrats finally realizing that it is not a popularity contest they need to win but the Electoral College. This time, they will not neglect even the smallest state or any state that traditionally votes Republican. Why? The voters want change for a variety of reasons but not necessarily the Democrats replacing the Republicans in the White House.

Anyway, my point of view.

I don't like Hilliary cause is gonna be another Clinton administration with Bill by her side.

Obama is possibility but I not think he is strong on the natonal defense and is gonna do like Clinton did in the '90s and just ignore terrorism against the USA and treat it like a crime instead of a war.

So on the Republican side is only left maybe McCain or Rommney. Guliani is just lucky to be mayor of NYC on 9/11 otherwise he is just a forgotten NYC mayro.

Kinda wish Fred Thompson was in the running cause I like him in Law and Order so maybe he is just an actor but so is President Regan who helping win the Cold War by directly addressing the problem.

Oh, well. mine is only one vote and I can't vote in the Republican primary but gonna vote in the Democrat on Super Tuesday next week.

We already seeing Clinton and Obama political ads and not really liking what I see.

Independent voter, maybe Libertarian too.

I not like to be a Democrat or a Republican cause I not like to supporting the party choice I not like.

As Independent I can voting the lesser of two evils.

The parties never giving us the best candidate but they say they do. Looking at 2000 (first year I can vote) we got Bush but I not really caring too much about Gore too.

Then in 2004 they give us Bush again and "which way the wind blowing" Kerry.

How about you?
