FM Radio is at an all-time low...

As far as concerned, FM Radio is an all-time low...

20 years ago, the FCC allowed FM radio broadcasts to carry digital data encoded into their analog signal. This was used to encode Metadata... the information about song title, artist, album, song length, etc.

If you had an old car radio it didn't matter as the additional information was transparent and had no affect the music format. Only newer radios could interpret the digital messages, usually streaming them along a 'ticker-tape' line on the radio display.

Modern car radios have a total digital experience by incorporating the screen for GPS, Radio, Backup camera and many other features. The car I own has a nice size display, but the radio only shows station name, song/artist in a small stream and the station I.D.

I had a rental car this year with a radio that received album name and images from the CD/album cover. I liked that part of the radio.

At the end of last year, a few local radio stations started introducing messages on the streaming window. Numbers to for contests, and little by little, advertisements appeared on the display. Car dealers and Attorney advertisements would fit in between song titles. Now, it's the song titles that have to fit in between the advertisements.
One station plays 2 different advertisements and at the same time you get to listen to a third advertisement.
.
Yeah, all time low.

It's nearly as low as watching the end of a TV movie where they squeeze the closing credits into 20% of the picture and fill 80% with several ads. Those 2 minutes of credits gets fast forwarded into 11 seconds.

I am still listening to FM only when driving...

However, I sometimes change to DAB radio when driving too.

I buy Sirius... I don't care for commercials... I think I pay like $70 something per year,

I recently cut my cable service, the basic bill was suppose to be $129.. for Internet, phone and TV... it kept creeping up, with no changes made by me up to 196.00 ... I finally got tired of being ripped off.

I never used the phone part, except I have an "emergency system connected to it"... the channel selection did nothing but repeat the same channels up to 1200, many were Junk!!!. SATURATED with Commercial Advertisements.

I love watching movies so I bought DVD's... heck, I still have a quantity of VHS, but now... I use "streaming services'.... I only bought the higher performance Internet service.

I have an unlimited cell phone plan for $57, and its not a top dollar model phone, but I've not seen it unable to do the things I use it for.

I also learned how to load apps without having to use the App Store... so I basically loaded the apps that do the things I want for. I also can load apps on my streaming device... without Android Playstore...

Years ago, FM Radio was great... it had the music I liked. I may play the radio in the garage, which generally stays on .... !
I still have a CD/player connected to the stereo unit in the house but may add a USB music storage unit to it,. My Car has Sirrius... and my Truck, has a Bluetooth adapter that connects to the music player in my phone.
