China's mountainous tower of trash China's economic growth in the last thirty years has been stunning, averaging just under 10 percent per year in the last 30 years, roughly three times the global average. But all of that economic growth has created some mountainous environmental and health-related challenges, too. Literally mountainous — like this huge nine-story tall pile of trash that has built up at the crossroad of Huanghe avenue and Zhufeng street of Shijiazhuang, in central China's Hebei province: ( from news)

Interesting. There is a landfill about 30 miles from my house that is next to a main highway. Depending on the way the wind is blowing, you can smell it was you drive by. Unfortunately, it's near a residential zone and I always think of the fermenting smell from the pickle factory I used to pass each morning (when the air was still) when going to work. Anyway, since this landfill is so huge, it's become a landmark for giving directions... we affectionately call it "Mount Trashmoore"

We can blame Western Greed for that ...... our greed over came us and left us practically barren when it comes to industrial capacity.
