My wife and I were shopping one day and decided to visit a discount department store. Walking around the shoe racks I found a really nice shoe that was in my wife's size. She tried it on and we were looking for the match but it was nowhere to be found.

It was on the close-out rack and there were no more of this style to be found.

Let me know if you see the matching left shoe. Thanks!

I've got a LOLLIPOP on my cellphone...

Google, unveiled their version 5 android operating system nearly a year ago and some carriers started releasing updates late last year. For me, the update came today. Named Lollipop, the upgrade installation was successful and took less than an hour including backing up all the contents of the phone.

What can you expect for this upgrade?
So far, they did a lot of fixing things that weren't broken!

The interface colors are 'more pastel' and bit easier to read. Some of the sounds have changed and there is a lot more animation/articulation of screen changes than before. It appears to be quicker in operation. I haven't read the tech notes and I'm sure to have a few operational glitches simply as they like to make changes with every new version.

e-mail links are improved. I often receive mail from a music store and it would display the message in a page many times larger than my screen. I had to scroll around to find things. Now, the entire page is viewed in one screen making it easier to view and zoom as needed.

That's the quick review and it it's offered on your Android phone, I think you will like the change.

Stamp...

stamp is a derogatory street term for a tattoo that is placed on a persons (typically a young woman's) backside, below the waist and above the butt crack, visible when wearing low cut jeans and a midriff shirt.

That said... I've seen stories claiming sociological studies associate a high percentage of these women to be sexually promiscuous.

Fashion statement or a calling card? You decide.

SPORK: It's part spoon and part fork...

A spork is an unusual dining implement that is part spoon, part fork. Basically, it is a spoon with tines on the end, suitable for using as a fork, while still having a spoon portion.

According to my research, the spork was invented in the 1940's. when the US Army occupied Japan after the war. General Mcarthur decreed that the use of chopsticks was uncivilized and the conquered foe should use forks and spoons like the rest of the 'civilized' world.

Fearing the Japanese might rise up and retake their country with their forks, he and the US Army invented the 'spork,' which was then introduced into the public schools.

The Army, which had taken over all government enterprises and the schools, enforced the use of the 'spork,' and made the use of chopsticks in the schools a punishable offense.

In more contemporary times, the spork has obtained the status of an urban legend. Sometime in the 1960's, they started appearing at fast food restaurants, the first being Kentucky Fried Chicken. Later, other chains had sporks, including Taco Bell, and even a few McDonald's stores.

Hey buddy... your brake lights are out!

I could probably retire if I had a dollar for every time I warned someone the brake lights on their car weren't working.

So what did I get for being a Good Samaritan? Nuttin.
(I don't want to set a bad example, but that's nothing to those who are learning English.)

If I felt the person I was warning was coherent enough, I'd tell them "If a cop writes a ticket, it will cost you $75. I suggest you spend $4 on a new bulb. That will lower your chances on a rear-end collision should someone not realize you have faulty brake lights".

Going to work the same time every day often finds other people also going to work at the same time. I recognized the same car week after week driving without brake lights. I guess the cops around here don't give tickets anymore for faulty equipment.

My reminder today was a work truck in front of me had one working light. That means the other 2 weren't working. You could see the lens was cracked on one light and it must have filled with rain water as there was dirt and rust dropped below the light. Obviously broken for years... hey, who cares?

Apparently, no one. So no more warnings of "Hey buddy... your brake lights are out!"

Slow down... there's a dead guy on the highway!

Picture this... Night time road construction, warning signs, flashing lights, barricades, traffic cones where 5 lanes squeeze down to 2. For months this has been going on and tonight is no different. Sometimes it's only a single lane blocked, other times it's more. Tonight it appeared they were installing signage on the median structures.

My niece calls to say she arrived at the airport 20 miles away. She is unable to get a ride from friends and a taxi is a small fortune. Uber isn't a good idea from the airport, so I went to pick her up.

It's midnight and I'm nearing the spot where the lanes merge together. 30 cars in front of me have their brake lights on as we slow down to a crawl. I looked in my rearview mirror and see a few cars approaching at a high rate of speed!! I started pumping my brakes to serve as a warning and all but one seemed to realize THEY NEED TO STOP.
The one car who wasn't paying attention swerves onto the shoulder narrowly avoiding an accident.

Yeah, it looks like someone else (before us) wasn't heeding the warning signs and as we moved up there already was an accident... it looks like 4 maybe 5 cars involved.
One guy walking in circles has his hands on his head in disbelief because he's 20 feet from a dead guy laying on the highway.

As we pass the accident site only a few hundred feet ahead is the actual construction work. Right after, traffic eases and we regain normal speed despite the lane closures... it never ceases to amaze me the number of cars speeding past as though they are in a race and need to compensate for lost time from the construction.

Upper Management: Pushers, Pullers or Do Nothing...

I've worked for a lot of companies over the years, Some employed 3 or 4 while others employed 300+ people. From experience, I have categorized upper management into 3 simple groups. Pushers, Pullers, or those who Do Nothing.

The pusher, in many cases has little concept of how long or how difficult a task is... all he want's is MORE. Move faster, do more in less time. It doesn't matter what obstacles you are faced with. If you are focused and 'bust your ass' to get something done, the pusher always expects better from you and all of his employees. Often the pusher will take credit for the success of his company... after-all (in his mind) he was the motivating force.

The puller is a boss who is 'brings the workforce to his level'. He's the leader of a team and knows compliments, incentives, meetings and organization will get the most from his people. When the compliments come, he doesn't take the credit.

The do nothing boss/owner often has separation from his people. He's there for a paycheck and doesn't want to be bothered with 'business matters'. He took the risks of starting a business and lost something along the way. Maybe a bad marriage or wife complaining he's not home with family... whatever the reason, the do nothing boss can't be bothered with his people... even when called on to make corporate decisions, "I'll get back to you on that" seems to be the standard reply.

I'm sure there are more categories to define upper management, but these are the 3 main types that come to mind.

The online numbers are more realistic now...

I said the online counter in the last few years showed an unrealistic amount of members online (read: inaccurate) simply because it went from less than 2,000 to 160,000 in a few months time.

The website wasn't working too well on Friday and now I see the online counter has dropped to 380 members... a number I believe is accurate.
