I got home last night before dark and my wife was out back tending to the banana trees. There are 5 or 6 new shoots that we planned to replant but we were out of manure and topsoil. So we did a quick trip to Home Depot and got 4 bags of 'stuff' and stopped at the grocery store on the return trip.
We bought chicken parts for soup. The 2 of us worked together making the soup. Carrots & mushroom in a store bought broth with the roasted chicken and rice added to the mix. It was the first time for us and we were pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
It's been lightly raining all morning so neither of us wants to go out and work in the garden and I really don't need to drive to the office. So... I'm working from home today and thinking about having soup for lunch!

I like to scan new profiles to see what women have to say in their introduction. Quite often, I see things written that strike a nerve (in me) because I feel the introduction isn't natural. I'll use the phrase 'over the top' to describe it.
As a standard member, I can only see a sentence or two when I hover the mouse over their photo, but it is long enough to copy and paste into a popular search engine and see other places that opening introduction is used.
This week, a new member is using "I would h a t e to bore you by telling you how wonderful I am by attaching to my name a bunch of flattering adjectives."
I have found that exact phrase on lots of dating sites... the first being a profile from a woman on a Ukrainian dating site. It also appears on several profiles of guys and girls including some in the US. I researched one of the photos from a profile using the phrase and it links to a list of reported scammers. Another was a man in India who adds "I have little patience for flakes and fake people..."
To copy an introduction from another profile doesn't make you a scammer... or does it?
Updated the wording because it was flagged for some reason...

Poking at a cat and not expecting to get scratched...

It seemed like media everywhere was covering the Charlie Hebdo story. I watched a news clip Sunday about the fire bombing of the French publisher Charlie Hebdo back in November 2011 and one of the cartoonists later said in a taped interview "Without freedom of speech they would all be dead."
He had his free speech and now he is dead. Sadly that statement didn't go as intended.
I'll remain neutral in the matter but I get the feeling that people tend to ignore they are poking at a cat and not expecting to get scratched. . I found this photo on a blog site: .

Lottery...

My wife agreed to play the lottery with me tonight. She will have her numbers and I will have mine. If I win, I will share 50% with her and if she wins, she will share 50% with me.
Currently, her immigration status is being processed and it could take several months before approved, but there is no rush what we would do with our millions.
I have a mentally prepared a wish list. My plans are to retire and established some long-term investments, move to a bigger house in a gated community. The two of us would spend several months each year in China and secure the lives of her and her mother. I'm sure I would buy some vintage guitars and amplifiers, Chinese erhu (2 string fiddle) and pay for music lessons, setup a workshop for my inventions, music studio, computer lab... oh my mind is working overtime now!
There's a really good chance if I win the millions I'll keep it a secret from you guys. Sorry...

Junque...

I'm reminding myself that I have too many unused 'things'. You know... things that women call JUNK. Office equipment, tools, old computer parts, software, gadgets, etc. Technology changes and some of these things are obsolete. Actually, some aren't and that's the problem. Obsolescence is often a marketing tool or a state of mind.
Many people have simple needs and don't require the very latest technology to run a business or make their lifestyle complete. That's like the decision of buying a $2,000 quad-core computer simply because you need it for e-mail. If the salesman at BestBuy told you it was necessary, he should be executed by a firing squad in the morning.
Years ago, I bought an all-in-one laser fax that scans legal paper. Right after the warranty period, the paper feed broke and it's $200 to repair. I no longer need the scanner or the fax (as I have replaced them with other equipment) but I wouldn't mind having the laser printer working.
Checking for online deals, I can buy factory refurbished laser printers for $50. That's about the same price as the toner cartridge. Basically, they are giving away the laser printers. Do I absolutely need this? No, but I often print documents 10-15 pages on an inkjet that seems like an eternity. So a $50 laser printer isn't a far-fetched idea.
Consider this: Trashing the bulky (unused) laser fax for a compact laser printer removes a box 2' x 2' x 2' from my storage shed. Good, more room for some other junque!
When you run a business, you have to keep records. This I have. OK, so maybe I don't need 20 years of records sitting in my storage shed in my back yard, but I don't want to spend a day sorting through boxes of old things deciding what to throw out.
I do have years and years of my old hand drawings for furniture... some of my life is on those drawings and I would like to select the nicest drawings and scan them for my portfolio.
I've been looking for other things somewhere in storage that I did while in High-School. One got me an award when submitted to the county art show for all the schools in the area. It was a pencil sketch of Eric Clapton, guitarist of the Cream. The other was an ink & watercolor psychedelic rendering of a man with a big puffy (Afro) hairstyle... something you would find on logo for the Broadway show HAIR. I was proud of some of my art work, these were my favorites. I know they are somewhere in a box of junque waiting for me to reclaim them.
Sometimes friends and offer to help me eliminate some of my junque, however, they don't know the difference between junk and junque. So I cannot trust them for they might mistakenly slip some junque in a garbage bag with junk and I'll never see it again.
I bought a SAMSUNG color LaserFAX that I'm waiting for it to break. It's been disappointing using this device. Wi-Fi connection so I can send images from a smartphone or tablet directly to the printer. Nice feature if you don't want to be bothered uploading to a computer first. I'm sure I'll need a few years setting up the software and drivers to get these features working.
Back to the Junque... My wife says if I haven't used it in 3 years, it's junk and needs to be discarded. I'm trying to get her to agree in 5 years.
I dragged some old electronics and fans to the curb (where trash normally gets picked up on Tuesday) and 30 minutes later they all were gone! Proof that one mans trash is another mans treasure.

For New Years Eve we went to Gulfstream Racetrack. 2 generations ago it was only a huge parking lot and a race track. Now, it has 2 casinos, shopping, salons and more than 10 restaurants.
In the center of the pavilion is an outside pit where people congregate and listen to live music. The atmosphere was a mixture of who can look the best and who can look the worst!
The high volume music could make your eyes blur and thumping bass that you can feel deep into your spine. Laser lights from all directions with food and drinks from several vendors. Hamburgers were $8 and soda was $3.
Located along the Intracoastal Waterway, we could see Miami Beach from the top deck that overlooks the racetrack. Very pretty and some fireworks could be seen 10 miles to the north and south of us.
It was nearly midnight and we had walked around the place twice... deciding there was no reason to stay any longer, we headed home.
Since it's primarily a racetrack, I wouldn't mind returning on a Saturday when they have races and some family activities.
I took some photos of the huge Pegasus statue being built at the front entrance that was under construction. I expect it to be completed soon.

Volkswagen Beetle...

I went to the grocery store today and in the parking was a Volkswagen Beetle from around 1967. It was in horrible condition with rusted chrome and faded paint. The windshield was cloudy. I pointed it out to my wife and said "That car is almost as old as you!"

I smiled remembering some school friends who drove VW's in the 1970's
As we left the store an older heavyset woman had squeezed herself into the car and was starting the engine. She backed out and another guy was watching and commented "that's really nice to see such a car of that vintage on the road these days" and my reply was "It wouldn't surprise me if she's the original owner!"
The two of us laughed and each went to our cars. He waved as we passed each other leaving!
Happy New Year!

If it looks and acts like a scammer...

My formula... If it looks and acts like a scammer, chances are it is a scammer.
Last week, I saw a new member using a photo of Julie. If you remember a few months ago I posted a photo of Yuliana (Julie) Avalos the bikini model and internet sensation who's stolen photos appear on dating and social media sites all over the world. She's number one when it comes to faked profiles. Julie claims to be totally innocent of this fraudulent activity and has/had a YouTube video making such a claim.
No surprise to me. I can spot a 'Julie' photo with my eyes closed!
Let's believe her for the moment. But, many of the recent bogus profiles have photos of Julie that aren't found by normal search methods. That would mean whoever is doing this, has access to some of her new social media sites to steal these pics.
That profile last week had the name entice and I reported it. Remember Julie is married with and says she's not on dating sites. Therefore, any profile with a photo of Julie is a fake. This week another new profile with the name entice has photos of Julie and I diligently reported it. One twist. the profile was there a few days later and I reported it again. I'm surprised. It's still active.
This has me perplexed why the bogus profile hasn't been deleted. . .
