Social media sites where scrolling to the bottom of the page goes on and on and on and on...
It seems like an endless webpage and the more you scroll the more photos appear at the bottom.
I'm convinced they are repeating the same photos over again so you get tired and give up scrolling!

Shen Yun...

My wife and I went to see the Shen Yun dance performance last night at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The show was spectacular!
Shen Yun is a Chinese dance troupe based in New York that features classical and traditional styles of Chinese dance dating back for thousands of years. The orchestra was mostly western instruments supplemented with traditional Chinese instruments. Erhu (2 string fiddle) Pipa (4 string Lute) Guzheng (16 string zither) Dizi (bamboo flute with buzzing membrane) Lui (traditional large gong)
Tickets were a Christmas gift from my ... total surprise to me and my wife. Shen Yun advertisements were in storefront windows of all the Asian stores and restaurants and we had plans to go, but felt the money was better spent on a new TV. So, we got both after all.
Researching the website for the theater, it stated dress for the occasion was to be appropriate for an opera. So, we dressed up! The bad part were the amount of people who went dressed like they were going to a sports bar to watch a football game.
No event could be complete without someone who is totally obnoxious and (in this case) he was sitting right behind me! This guy was fidgeting and kicking the back of my seat every few minutes. I turned around several times to the crumpling of what appeared to be a bag of potato chips. Yes, he was eating something in a bag despite the warning signs that food or beverage are not permitted in the theater. I couldn't wait for intermission... he was back in his seat eating a turkey sandwich so I went to the ushers and asked for assistance. They were nice and since the venue wasn't filled they allowed us to move up a few rows into some empty seats.
The performance was a supplemented by large screen animation on the backdrop and choreographed perfectly with the dancers. Costumes were colorful and stayed on for all the dance routines. Only once did a dancer drop a prop and another slipped and lost a step during a routine.
Each scene was announced in English and Chinese with a short explanation of the dance. Lighting, special effects and music volume were also perfect.
Every year the production does a different show so if we decide to go again we can expect to see and hear new things.
Shen Yun (maybe) coming to a city near you! .

Quality of life...

I had my cholesterol checked three months ago and again recently. The numbers are dropping. So why do I look so much older in such a short period of time?
I do... if you look at my recent photos, my face looks thinner. I'm thinner.
My weight went down this year. I'm estimating I peaked at 220 pounds (100kg) and I got down to my goal of 200 (90.9kg) when my fiance arrived.
I'm holding between 200 and 205 now. Diet change is the single biggest contributor to the weight loss. Smaller meals, less meat, less sugar and fatty foods.
Back to appearance. If you remember Bill Clinton looked great before he had heart surgery. After, he had a major change of diet (no more hamburgers) and I would guess a stream of cholesterol reducing drugs had his blood vessels opened where they were partly clogged.
Statins are drugs that help the body reduce cholesterol. I tried that 10 years ago and got really sick from it. 3 years ago, I tried a cardiologist who favors statins and it appeared to be a repeat of a decade ago so I stopped taking them.
I felt these medicines, in an attempt to improve the quality of life were actually causing other problems. I'm told I shouldn't do natural weight loss and that statins are the best thing for me. However, the advice came from someone who makes a living prescribing statins and this worries me.

Earlier this week a famous British singer died at the age of 70. His name was Joe...
Anyway... Joe was an amazing singer. I first heard about him from the 1969 concert at Woodstock. His version of the Beatles song 'With a Little Help From My Friends' had so much impact we had forgotten all about the original!
Like many musicians, Joe was affected by addictions and it was lung cancer he lost the battle with.
I spent a few hours this week listening/watching to a few videos on YouTube from Joe, including the one where he performed on an episode of Saturday Night Live where comedian John Belushi mimicked Joe. It looked like Joe was unhappy with John... especially since John did a good job of copying Joe. Funny, it was.
Rest In Peace Joe... you entertained millions!
Attached photo: Joe from his Woodstock performance.

Constant Updates...

I'm so tired of my devices making constant updates. Sometimes the same application on my cellphone updates daily. I have a computer running Windows 8 that upgraded to 8.1 without my permission. There was a blue band across the screen for weeks asking me to update and I always postponed the choice until it gave me no option and updated on it's own. I was trying to access the computer and it locked me out for more than 1 hour while it upgraded itself.
Hopefully, when it happens to you, you're not in a hurry looking for something important or you will be waiting around while it updates.

Sure we've eaten sushi together before but yesterday was the first time trying to make it.
Not bad for a first try and I figure we will be sushi experts sometime in January 2015! .

Rapeseed and Canola oil

My wife and I were looking at photos of fields of yellow flowers and I said it was rapeseed. she agreed there were many fields of flowers in China produced for market. I did a quick research that showed the rapeseed is also known as Canola oil, but I have some suspicions to the accuracy of this information. We are heading out today on some visits and I'll get back to this blog to supplement any of my new research.
If you know about these flowers, please add some comments.
Thanks!
