Yes... I know. It shouldn't take that long to paint a bedroom. The walls are a textured stucco that really sucks up paint. I needed 2 coats of primer to fully cover the original turquoise paint. The new color went on okay, but I missed some spots due to the textured walls and had to do more touchup than expected. For the first time in my painting career, I used an edge tool to paint along the ceiling. That proved to be a failure. It's good for about 4 or 5 feet then you have to add more paint. If you press too hard it will accidentally paint the ceiling. Every time you add paint, you have to clean the rollers and plastic top guides. I was spending more time cleaning the tool than painting. I normally do the edges with a brush but the brushes in the kit I got were inferior. This is the first time I had to resort to tape. That worked well. I'll be sure to tape all the straight edges from now on!

White Primer...

I'm part-way through my home renovation project before my fiance arrives. The master bedroom was painted a dark turquoise/teal for my niece who lived with me for a few years. She's gone and I'm taking the room back!
Since the turquoise is so dark, one normal coat of white primer isn't enough so I applied it very thick and in some places, put two coats.
My volunteered to paint the baseboard and after 1 hour gave up, so the rest is up to me.
I gave my girlfriend every consideration with respect to the color selection. 3 weeks ago we talked about leaving it white and deciding on a color after she arrives. The clock is ticking and I really didn't want her to be in a bedroom with construction going on. Last night on video cam I showed her some samples and we talked about the earth tones of the flooring so he told me it was okay to choose the color.
The guy at the paint department said it was no problem custom blending a color if I thought their selections were too dark. We ended up with a 50% mixture than the manufacturers swatch. I'll describe it as a pale lime that matches the existing flooring.

Bubble Tea...

One of our members who visits the chat room has 'bubble tea' in her handle. Cute name but I didn't know the reference until I read someones profile who said they cannot live without their iPhone and bubble tea!
Oh? so I did some research to find out want bubble tea is.
Wikipedia says "Bubble tea, also known as pearl milk tea or boba milk tea, is a Taiwanese tea-based drink invented in Taichung, Taiwan, during the 1980s. The term "bubble" is an Anglicized imitative form derived from the Chinese bobà, meaning "large", slang for the large, chewy tapioca balls commonly added to the drink."
Hey... I tried this stuff on my trip to China!
I thought it was a novelty drink...
Anyway, Bubble Tea while it's okay in my book...
Thanks for reading my blog!

A few weeks ago, I commented the navigation buttons on the bottom of the screen had changed for most of the search pages. The 'who's online' page was my reference. The Previous and Next buttons positions (at the bottom of the page) were switched.
Some things you take for granted would be 'to go back' on the left and 'to go forward' on the right. It's been like this for years... we all expect it.
I'm a creature of habit and often hit the wrong button here... all the other websites I visit have the next button at the right.
Earlier this week, it was fixed. The navigation buttons have returned to their original locations.
If someone in management position is listening... thanks!

I've read comments from other bloggers about censorship to their blogs and blog comments. I've had it happen to me too. I believe the process is automated. If you say something the system doesn't like, it will block your comment and notify you to amend it.
Okay... not that I agree, but I understand the system and question the criteria for banned comments and blogs. Maybe they need to 'lighten up' a bit on the word filtering.
Here's a visual to support my claim. I inserted a laugh icon that was blocked for reasons stated in the photo:

I was out shopping the other day and came across an old girlfriend. She asked how I was doing and I told her I was engaged to a beautiful Chinese woman. As you can see by the photo she became green with envy...

I won't mention names, but I would like to thank the dating website for allowing us to make first contact, the instant messenger service providing the means for video chats, the translation software manufacturer making it possible for two people who speak different languages to communicate effectively, the airlines for getting me to my destination, the very nice hotel that only cost $25US per day, all the taxi and bus services that got us to and from our travels, the immigration attorney who really made things happen, my accountant for keeping my books straight, the Guangzhou Embassy for approving her fiance visa and most of all... my future wife for sticking with me through all of this. Between the job changes, work setbacks, application delays and mix-ups that made you wait... It was beyond my control and I'm truly sorry. I expect all that to be in the past.
With less than two months to go. We're counting down !! .

Rest in peace...

The short epitaph "May he/she rest in peace" is a prayerful request.
Because the body is not moving do we assume the dead persons spirit is at rest? Do any of you have proof? Do you know for sure someone who died in a horrible fire isn't stuck with the burning smothering loss of life feeling for eternity?
I say we don't know... When someone says "He's (or she's) resting in peace now, I usually go along with them because they would get irritated if I gave the response I'd really like to make.

Sixteen Tons...

I was 10 years old when my elementary school teacher told us about his jobs prior to becoming a teacher. One job was working in a railroad yard. Back then, most of the freight trains derived their fuel energy from coal and to get coal required miners to dig it out of the earth. Part of our lesson was to learn the song Sixteen Tons recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford, recorded in 1955. The song had to do with a Kentucky coal miner and how bad conditions were back then. The miners worked for a company store and lived in company owned dormitories. Their rent was deducted from their pay. They were not paid cash... instead received vouchers that were only good to purchase goods and supplies from the company store... it was worse than indentured servants. According to the (Wikipedia) research I found, this debt bondage system persisted until the strikes of the newly formed United Mine Workers and affiliated unions forced an end to such practices.
Here's a sample of the lyrics: "Some people say a man is made outta mud A poor man's made outta muscle and blood Muscle and blood and skin and bones A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong
You load sixteen tons, what do you get Another day older and deeper in debt Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get Another day older and deeper in debt Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store..."
Sung & recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford, credits for songwriting go to Merle Travis.
